Routine Care

Routine Care

Dr. Chickey strongly believes in taking a preventative approach to dental care which concentrates on the maintenance of healthy teeth. More than just a cleaning, routine visits allow us to monitor your general health, inspect for alterations in your oral soft tissues which include cancer screening, and undertake a detailed evaluation of your gums, teeth and previous dental procedures, in order to catch potential problems before they become serious.

Oral hygiene is the practice of keeping one’s mouth clean and free of disease, by regular brushing and cleaning in between the teeth. The most common types of dental disease are dental decay (also known as dental caries), gingivitis and periodontitis. It is important that Oral Hygiene be completed on a regular basis, as it can prevent these diseases from occurring.

Brushing and Flossing

Regular brushing consists of brushing at least twice a day, especially after breakfast and before going to bed. Cleaning in between one’s teeth is called interdental cleaning through the use of floss, flossettes or interdental brushes. It is just as important as tooth brushing because a toothbrush cannot reach between your teeth leaving half of your tooth surfaces uncleaned.

Teeth Cleanings

Teeth cleanings with Dr. Chickey’s hygienist involve the removal of dental plaque and calculus from teeth with the intention of preventing cavities (dental caries), gingivitis, and periodontal disease.
